About"
Residency Year: 2021
Originally from Oklahoma, I am a dance artist currently practicing in Minnesota. I think of my artwork as snapshots into the social and cultural dimensions of life. Often referencing history as a distanced conceptual backdrop, my work explores contemporary relationships through performance. Dance, voice, and multimedia overlap, reframing commonly known stances into layered formations and breaks into something new. For my current work, the sites of exploration are diverse, pulling from multiple canons of movement that invite viewers to think about community.
Project "
"Seasoned Right Here(s)" is a come as you are – glad, angry, tired, or well-rested – space that reveals subtle layers of together-ness and we-ness as artist-participants, fellowship with each other. This space was created for participants to chill, give support to each other, and center their voices: the voices of self-identifying Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) community members. Freedom, truth, and care are some of the primary components of this project. The "Seasoned Right Here(s)" video features the responses of participants to this project through voice, dance, and composition. "Right here", in this space, we trust the bodies, voices, and ways of being/knowledge our community members share.
